THE voluntary efforts of musicians Tony Rebel, Luciano, Bob Andy, Pam Hall, Fourth Street Sister, Queen Ifrica, Iystic and Anthony Selassie, was hailed Sunday as true volunteerism by the United Nations' system co-ordinator in Jamaica, Gillian Lindsay-Nanton.

Speaking at Sunday's premiere of the Tony Rebel-composed Not All About Money -- theme song for the UN's International Year of Volunteers campaign -- Lindsay-Nanton said the song signified the importance of charity.

"The song communicates the very spirit of volunteerism ... and Tony Rebel is a committed volunteer who not only gave of himself but brought together the collective genius of Luciano, Bob Andy, Pam Hall, Fourth Street Sister, Queen Ifrica, Iystic and Anthony Selassie," Nanton noted.

Quoting from the song,"It's not all about money, it's service to humanity", Nanton reminded the gathering at Le Meridien Jamaica Pegasus that "This is the word of volunteerism".

Dressed in trademark white, the improving Fourth Street Sister lifted the curtains on the afternoon's event with beautiful harmony and sensuous choreography. They performed -- to the audience's delight -- Stay, Si Mi Yah and Here I Am Baby.

They set an hectic pace, so hot that budding act Lystic found it hard to follow.

Pleasing renditions came from Queen Ifrica, Anthony Selassie and Pam Hall whose gender anthem, I Was Born A Woman, was delivered with great emotion and intensity.

Saxophonist Dean Fraser, bassist Glen Browne, guitarist Dalton Browne, keyboardist Bowie McLaughlin and drummer, Desi Jones, were among the invited guests taking the bandstand.

The singing prowess of Bob Andy and Luciano as well as the dynamism of Tony Rebel were also high points.

Andy had the audience rocking to his numerous gems from the 1960s. Considered one of Jamaica's finest composers, he also debuted two new songs, I Love You More and Zion New from his soon-to-be-released CD.

The finale saw all performers coming together to sing Not All About The Money.
